Scottish Deerhounds in Walt Disney's 'Mary Poppins'
This is one of my all time favourite movies and the whole family watched this just yesterday - Mary Poppins. It was only then we noticed a Scottish Deerhound in the movie - and why not? After all, it's set in Victorian London, a period when auld Queen Vic had brought Scottish Deerhounds into vogue inspired by her highland jaunts. 'Bert' (Dick Van Dyke's character) has screeved a Landseer work onto the pavement in chalk. The original "Stag at Bay" is now hung in Dublin Castle and owned by the Guiness family should you wish to view it.
So here we are into our eighth year of deerhound blogging and it's a happy new year to all and remember:
Oh, it's a jolly holiday with Mary,
Mary makes your heart so light,
When the day is gray and ordinary,
Mary makes the sun shine bright.
